NIFIN

The Nordic Institute in Finland

Nifin (the Nordic Institute in Finland) is a Nordic institution funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. It forms a Nordic meeting place in the centre of Helsinki.

Nifin’s goal is to provide people in Finland with knowledge about the other Nordic countries’ languages and cultures. The institute also aims to distribute knowledge about Finnish language and culture to the other Nordic countries.

To accomplish these goals, Nifin organises projects, seminars and language courses, and serves as a clearing house for information about the Nordic countries and Nordic cooperation. Nifin concentrates on culture, education, media and society, and plays an active role in Nordic language policies.

Nifin runs a Nordic library open to the public, with an emphasis on modern fiction. The collection also includes Nordic nonfiction, newspapers, magazines, film, music and language cassettes.
